The Day the Path Shivered
A familiar path. An unexpected change. A journey made possible by friendship.
By Barry Smith
A fantasy story with
meaning beneath the surface.
Sweetland is a connected, living world of paths, waterways and very different friends. When the Path becomes uncertain, SugCon’s adventure explores the value of support and the courage it takes to continue.
Book One introduces SugCon, Benny Banana, Professor Apple, Captain Carrot and Nutty, alongside the dolphins Ripple, Splash and Echo. Friendship runs through the story, on land and in the water.
The fantasy comes first. Barry’s experience of Type 1 diabetes informs the symbolism and emotional purpose, while the themes of change, belonging and hope reach beyond any one condition.
